Kjel Johnson received his professional degrees from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at St. Paul Ramsey Medical Center. Dr. Johnson began his career as a faculty member at U-Pittsburgh and a clinical pharmacist at UPMC. He was a VP at UPMC Health Plan, a Regional Director for Coventry Healthcare, and then Senior Manager at Deloitte Consulting where he led various projects to optimize pharmacy and medical management functions of large health plans. Dr. Johnson is currently Senior Vice President of Business Development at ICORE Healthcare. In this role he identifies and develops injectable management strategies and services for payors. He was a co-founder of ICORE in 2003, and has continued with the company through its acquisition by Magellan Health Services in 2006. He has expertise in outsourcing and turn-around strategies, outcomes measures, and cost reduction modeling, and has developed or co-developed specialty pharmacy management programs for three large national insurers, as well as various regional payors. Dr. Johnson has published over 50 articles, abstracts and book chapters in refereed publications. His research has primarily been centered on evaluating the cost effectiveness of medicines and procedures. He has been principle investigator on over 40 clinical trials. He is a Fellow of both the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacists and of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy and the publisher of Managed Care Oncology.
