The University of Minnesota Postgraduate (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program is a multi-site program that focuses on the practice of pharmaceutical care in ambulatory care settings.
Mission
PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
Vision
Advancing ambulatory pharmacy practice in diverse communities by developing patient-centered leaders while providing comprehensive medication management in a healthcare team. Our residency graduates will combine expertise in pharmacotherapy with an interprofessional team approach to patient-centered care, assume responsibility for safe and effective medication use, successfully and efficiently manage practice, and demonstrate an enthusiastic commitment to leading practice in an evolving health environment. Our graduates have been immersed in an innovative/ cutting edge health care environment, and will be health care leaders that integrate and advance comprehensive medication management into practice. The Postgraduate (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program will be recognized nationally not only for its exceptional graduates, but also for our innovative approach to simultaneously meet the growing demand for residency opportunities while enhancing quality pharmacy services in health care organizations.
