Kristin Engebretsen is a Board Certified Clinical Toxicologist currently practicing at Regions Hospital in the Emergency Medicine Department. She received her doctorate of pharmacy from the University of Minnesota, then completed a toxicology residency at Ramsey Hospital. Her research has focused on poison-induced cardiovascular shock and excited delirium. She currently takes calls for Minneapolis and St. Paul Children’s Hospitals for drug overdoses and is a clinical professor at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy.
She and her fellow recently obtained funding in 2014 from HealthPartners to continue their research on high dose insulin and vasopressor therapy. She and Dr. Cole also recently won the international AACT 2013 Research Award for their pre-hospital study on ketamine in the agitated patient.
She is dedicated to the field of toxicology and spends much time working on a national level as incoming President of the American Board of Applied Toxicology (ABAT) 2014, an affiliate member liaison for ACMT, and is a fellow of AACT (American Academy of Clinical Toxicology). She also sits on the ABAT education committee and is a member of the ABAT credentialing and scientific affairs committee and the AACT education committee. She is decision editor for the Journal of Medical Toxicology and serves as a reviewer for the journal of Clinical Toxicology.
