Norrie Thomas holds B.S., M.S., and PhD degrees from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. After earning her professional degree, she worked for three years as a hospital pharmacist, and also worked part-time while returning to school for her advanced degrees. Dr. Thomas subsequently helped found one of the first pharmacy benefit management companies, building the company to over four million customers in less than five years. She is a successful entrepreneur, having launched, managed, sold and founded several pharmacy managed care companies. Dr. Thomas has held senior management positions at MedCenters Health Plans, Aetna, Clinical Pharmacy Advantage, McKesson, PCS, Eli Lilly, St. Jude Medical, Schering-Plough, and Magellan Health Services. She is one of the founders of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacists (AMCP). Her current entrepreneurial venture is POET Pharmacy Outcome Enhancement Technologies. She is also currently acting as the Interim Executive Director and CEO for the Foundation for Managed Care Pharmacy (FMCP), the supporting foundation for AMCP. In 2009 she was awarded managed care pharmacy’s highest award, the Steven G. Avey Award, which recognizes sustained distinguished service to the profession of managed care pharmacy.
