OT student seeks to support families waitlisted for diagnostic evaluation

For her doctorate capstone project, occupational therapy student Bruktawit Zewdie is interviewing parents of children on the autism spectrum who have been waitlisted for evaluation or intervention. She’s working with the TeleOutreach Center at the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain, which she was introduced to during her time as a MNLEND fellow. Zewdie’s research will help shape the center’s intervention model when supporting waitlisted families. She aims to one day develop a telehealth program designed specifically for international families.  

“There were times when I questioned whether I could make a difference in occupational therapy, but hearing from patients and other professionals reassured me. There’s a lot of work to be done,” she said.
