September 12, 2017
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL — Assistant Professor Laura Palombi received the Generation Rx Champions Award at the Sept. 8-9 Minnesota Pharmacists Association annual meeting. The award honors a pharmacist who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to raising awareness of the dangers of prescription drug abuse among the general public and among the pharmacy community. The award is also intended to encourage educational prevention efforts aimed at patients, youth, and other members of the community. The award is sponsored by Cardinal Health.
“I’m very thankful for this honor and would like to recognize the communities that I work in and all the hard work that they put forth to end substance abuse in their communities,” said Palombi. “Solutions to the opioid abuse crisis are only possible when we work together in communities.”
Palombi joined the faculty of the College of Pharmacy’s Duluth campus in 2015. She has been involved in a variety of projects and collaborations in Carlton, St. Louis, Pine and Kanabec counties, including in her role as chair of Operation Community Connect, a resource day for the homeless, as well as with the Carlton County Drug Court and the Carlton County Drug Abuse Task Force.
