Pamala Jacobson receives STRIPE Double Helix Award from American Society or Pharmacovigilance
October 31, 2024
Pamala Jacobson, Distinguished Professor in the College of Pharmacy’s Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and director of the Institute for Personalized Medicine, has received one of the American Society of Pharmacovigilance’s inaugural STRIPE Double Helix Awards.
The awards are designed to celebrate individuals and organizations that have made exceptional contributions to the field of pharmacogenomics. They are classified into two categories - Excellence in Advancing Pharmacogenomics Through Collaboration and Outstanding Achievement in Pharmacogenomics. Jacobson was recognized in the later category.
“This award is a testament of the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the support by the College of Pharmacy and their belief in our work,” said Jacobson. “It inspires me to continue exploring how pharmacogenomics can further improve pharmacotherapy outcomes, how to empower pharmacists and others to apply it to their patients, and ultimately have this tool available to every patient.”
Jacobson leads a full team whose efforts have extended across clinical research, professional and graduate student education, practitioner education, program implementation, and payment policy for testing and more.
Among the initiatives highlighted in the nomination of Jacobson and her team were the development of the first PGx ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) in the U.S., the PGx Clinical Workforce Training Program, and the Pharmacogenomics Accelerator in partnership with the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists.
Nominators noted that these initiatives, along with Jacobson’s leadership role in legislative advocacy which has led to the passing of “biomarker legislation” demonstrate the Institute’s strategic efforts “toward ensuring PGx knowledge is widely applied so it can influence management of medications for as many patients as possible.”
The awards presentation took place during the STRIPE Annual Meeting in October 2024.
