Dr. Tim Stratton, professor in the college’s Department of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences, recently published research evaluating the college’s elective course on rural pharmacy practice. In addition to attending lectures and guest speakers, students also interview rural pharmacists. Despite 20% of the U.S. population living in rural areas (2020), only 12% of pharmacists practice in rural communities, Stratton cited.
“Even students who have little interest in living in a rural community can benefit from being introduced to rural culture, enabling them to provide more culturally-responsive care for patients from rural communities,” Stratton wrote.
