Carston “Rick” Wagner, PhD, has been named the 2021 recipient of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy’s (AACP) Volwiler Research Achievement Award. Wagner is a professor and endowed chair in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, as well as a Distinguished University Teaching Professor. The AACP’s top awards recognize “five individuals, one institution and one scholarly paper for their outstanding contributions made to pharmacy education, research, patient outcomes, community service and publication.” The research achievement award acknowledges Wagner’s “record of sustained excellence in research and entrepreneurial work in chemical biology.”
In response to the award, Wagner said, “I am very grateful for this award and its recognition of my fantastic research group’s scientific accomplishments. Without the tremendous support of my departmental and collegian colleagues and mentors it would not have been achievable.”
His nominator, Dr. Gunda Georg, added, “Dr. Wagner's pioneering work has brought worldwide recognition to the University and College of Pharmacy. The pharmacy profession, and our graduate students and curriculum, have greatly benefited from his significant contributions.”
Wagner will be honored, along with the other award recipients, at the AACP’s virtual annual meeting in July.
