The University of Minnesota Twin Cities announced today the launch of RoundtableRx, a nonprofit startup that will donate unused medications to Minnesotans across the state who struggle to afford their prescriptions. The startup, spearheaded by students from the College of Pharmacy, is the state’s first medication repository.

IV Baclofen, a muscle relaxant drug, benefits individuals who experience dystonia (abnormal muscle tension) or spasticity (muscle stiffness or rigidity) caused by cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, brain or spinal cord injury. The drug is currently available as oral tablets and as an intrathecal solution delivered through a pump into the spinal column.

The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) will honor University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy Professors Claire Kolar, PharmD, PhD, and Kristin K. Janke, PhD, with the Rufus A. Lyman Award in July.
