Lan & Lichtenfels Awarded 2023 - 2024 Bighley & Rowell Fellowships
February 6, 2024
The Department of Medicinal Chemistry is excited to announce that two of our dedicated PhD students were awarded competitive College of Pharmacy fellowships:
Tian Lan was awarded a Bighley Fellowship. The Bighley Graduate Fellowships are awarded to full-time CoP PhD graduate students who have great potential and are conducting research in basic and applied pharmaceutical sciences. Tian is a graduate student in Medicinal Chemistry and an advisee of Professor Courtney Aldrich. His research involves developing antibiotics for non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infections caused by Mycobacterium abscessus.
Tian had this to say about his award: "I am happy to receive the Bighely Fellowship this year. I am grateful for all the help and supports from my advisors, my lab and the Department of Medicinal Chemistry."
Caitlin Lichtenfels was awarded a Rowell Fellowship. The Ted Rowell Graduate Fellowships are awarded to full-time CoP PhD graduate students who are conducting research in basic pharmaceutical sciences with an emphasis in nutrition or drug delivery systems. Caitlin is a graduate student in Medicinal Chemistry and an advisee of Professor Carston Wagner. Her research investigates cell-based drug delivery using farnesylated chemically self-assembled nanorings.
Caitlin and Tian have been strong and diligent scholars, scientists, and leaders in our department. We are grateful for their contributions and proud to see their hard work acknowledged in a tangible way by the College of Pharmacy.
