This degree program is designed for MLS professionals with two years of work experience wishing to expand their knowledge in the profession. The MS in BLS degree provides additional theory, research and practice knowledge in the field, and prepares candidates for specialty certifications in areas like Molecular Biology or Microbiology.

This degree option reflects the interdisciplinary nature of laboratory practice and research with an emphasis on critical reasoning and innovative approaches to laboratory operations, leadership, research and evidence-based practice, as well as laboratory method development and validation.

Enrollment in the Master of Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science degree program can be full- or part-time, but must follow a sequence of courses based on course prerequisites. All required courses are offered entirely online.

Admission to the Master of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences Program is competitive. All applications are reviewed to ensure the potential for academic success. Notification of admissions decisions is made within four to six weeks of the application deadline.

Prerequisites*

A Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or related topic along with certification as a medical laboratory scientist. Students must also have a minimum of two years’ work experience practicing as a medical laboratory scientist.

A US grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent from foreign institutions; a GPA of 3.2 is considered to be competitive. If admitted, your graduate advisor may recommend additional coursework to build the necessary foundation if you do not have the ASCP MLS certification.

*Students who do not have MLS(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP)i certification will need to start in summer term to complete MLSP 6610 Integrated Concepts
